Holiday Job Search Have You Blue?

sadholidayIt is not unusual at any time to experience some despondency during career transition, and it is a normal emotion as long as you don’t dwell too long in that space. In your job search, especially during the holiday season, these feelings may grow in their intensity.

Here are 14 thoughts to try to help you maintain a healthy perspective, a sense of pride and wellbeing and, most importantly, to help you experience some happiness at this wonderful time of year:

  1. Don’t sweat the little things.
  2. Put your life in perspective. This is but a momentary event that with continued effort will pass and you will succeed if you believe in yourself and adopt the attitude of believing in your success.
  3. Don’t worry about things outside of your control. Worry has never solved anything. Focus on what you can control.
  4. Always strive to do the best you can. Don’t be afraid to try and better your best.
  5. Don’t beat yourself up. You have accomplished much already. Give yourself the credit you are due as you have earned it.
  6. Remember to be gracious and forgiving, even when you are right.
  7. This effort is about you, so don’t compare yourself to others. Just focus on what you have accomplished and what you want to do next.
  8. Always take the high road even when things aren’t quite going your way.
  9. Trust those around you as best you can, but remember that trust is a two way street and needs to be verified.
  10. Be willing to try to help others. Often in helping others and/or volunteering, you will reap rewards far beyond your own immediate needs.
  11. Don’t be afraid to step out. Experience something new and take some personal time out for yourself.
  12. Choose to be happy and cheerful and look for all the reasons you have to be happy and thankful.
  13. You are the only one who can choose your behavior so why not choose to be happy?
  14. Last but not least, try hard to make those around you happy. Happiness is contagious and maybe, just maybe it will rub off on you, too.
